Meet Rebecca Alasdair, the indie behind the imprint

We’re a little late to the party, but Happy New Year everyone! To kickstart 2022, we’d like to properly introduce you to Rebecca Alasdair, the founder / owner / general mastermind behind Southscript Press.

Rebecca lives in Melbourne, Australia and has been writing from the moment she learned to hold a pencil. Now a public servant by day, teller of stories by night, she loves dogs, coffee, and researching everything under the sun.

When she’s not carving out time for her authorly pursuits, she can be found reading until the dawn light peeks through the curtains, reorganising her rainbow-coloured bookshelves, or tending to her many, many plant children.

Here are some other fun facts about Rebecca:

🙌 She is ambidextrous…kind of

🥱 She once stayed awake for 36 hours straight

🎵 She used to be in a recorder ensemble (a LONG time ago)

🐻 She’s a bit obsessed with polar bears

🍌 She dressed up as a banana on her last day of high school

🏃‍♀️ She’s run a half-marathon (two actually!)

🚗 She’s quite terrible at parking cars

🎥 She’s filmed a giraffe falling over while being chased by a rhino

📰 She got her first job when she was 12 years old

👟 She currently owns 4x sets of Converse shoes

🗻 She’s been to the “hypoxic” zone

🩸 She once cut the end of her finger off with a mandolin slicer (but it grew back)

Southscript Press will be publishing Rebecca’s first novel Holding Up the Sky—a standalone YA contemporary set in Melbourne—later this year. Her other main project is an epic fantasy series titled Graceborn, which is anticipated to be six books long!
